What is Breathwork?
Breathwork can be understood as a way of directly engaging with the central nervous system. Slow, steady breathing helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, supporting relaxation and recovery. Faster or more intensive breathing styles may temporarily activate stress responses, followed by a rebound effect that can release tension and create a sense of clarity.
Research indicates that regular breathwork practice may reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and support sleep and concentration. It is not a replacement for therapy or medical treatment, but many people find it a practical tool for calming the mind, reconnecting with the body, and building resilience in everyday life.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle, complementary practice that supports the body’s natural capacity for regulation and rest. Originating in Japan, it is now widely used alongside medical and psychological care.
From a psychological perspective, Reiki can be understood as a structured period of stillness and co-regulation. A session involves lying or sitting comfortably while a practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the body. This quiet, relational presence can help settle the nervous system. Clients often describe a sense of calm, warmth, or clarity.
Scientific research into Reiki is still limited, but emerging studies suggest it may help reduce stress, support mood regulation, and improve sleep quality. Reiki is not a substitute for medical or psychological treatment, but many people find it a valuable way to reconnect with their bodies and access deep rest.
What You Might Experience in a Breath Journey Session
Combining breathwork with Reiki deepens body awareness. There’s no “right” or “wrong” response, your system will take what it needs. Common experiences include:
Physical sensations
Tingling, warmth, or waves of energy moving through the body
Shifts in breathing rhythm as old patterns release
Temperature changes (feeling cooler or warmer as circulation adjusts)
Vibrations, pulsing, or gentle trembling as tension softens
Inner experience
A heightened sense of connection with your body’s rhythms or sensations
Emotional release — tears, laughter, or spontaneous expression
Visual imagery, colours, or symbolic impressions
A sense of clarity, spaciousness, or “reset” in mind and body
After the session
Feeling energised, lighter, or more grounded
Relief from stress and increased mental clarity
Deeper sleep or improved rest in the days following
Emotions continue to process, sometimes gently, sometimes with surprising insights
A stronger sense of integration, as breath and energy work together to restore coherence
It is important to acknowledge that while I will create a safe container for our sessions, what may arise within you can cause emotional and physical discomfort, and sometimes this may be distressing. I offer after-care follow-up calls to hold space for processing what that might mean or look like for you,
